(As before, this comment is not from 2009. It's from 2012. With some minor edits in 2014 for ease of reading.)

I know it's not great, but in spite of that, I'm still so, so proud I actually managed to pull this off. It's more detailed than I thought I could ever do (you can see it more clearly at full size), and you can see just how much I've evolved. I realize you probably don't need ridiculously-long author notes, but I really feel like talking in more detail anyway.

A quick note, I do apologize that Aria and Davos's names didn't appear in-comic; I'll get them there as soon as I can. For now, you'll have to rely on author notes, as tedious as that may be.

One of the joys about working on my comic the way I do is that the best moments come about accidentally--in this case, if you were amused by Aria's antics in panels 2, 3, and 6, it might surprise you to learn they were completely unscripted. (The original script was fairly tame.) I slightly screwed up on the first panel, and that sparked an idea to basically have a ThrowItIn moment with her behavior.

Which did change the script a bit; Argus was originally more wordy, saying “I know my words. What’s your issue?” Part of his character IS verbosity, so I wanted to keep that in spite of a suggestion from Frosty to shorten it. But when Aria became flirtatious, it gave me an excuse to have Argus be visibly unnerved (he's been with Aria long enough to have an idea of what's coming) and thus, shorten his line. Which then altered the dialog in panel 3 similarly, from Davos saying the “We haven’t done any” with Aria finishing “That is our issue”, to both shouting the We haven’t done any. It was neat to me, so I'm hoping you appreciate the result, too.

Another detail similarly different in this comic from previous drawings is that Aria's only carrying one dagger, owing to her actions requiring one hand be open and the difficult camera angle that'd be involved to draw the second. It'll still appear in combat, but I'm thinking I'll keep the one-dagger look outside.

The remaining bonus details are mainly things that happened thanks to time constraints and/or laziness, but still count. Panel 1's a mess, but hasn't been fixed (originally not enough time) because it contrasts the last panel and shows how my art's evolving even in the same comic. (I can always change my mind later and edit it!) Aria was originally meant to ghost out in all panels except 3 and 6, but thanks to initial forgetfulness and then deciding it fit her character, I made her only ghost out in panel 2.

All good changes. Sadly, as details were added, some were lost. I couldn't find a way to make Davos be the first speaker in panel 1, so his line moved back to its original holder, Aria. (I wanted it to be his.) Similarly, Aria's last line originally had “Good subordinates” be “Lawful Good and Neutral Good subordinates”, which wouldn't fit. I tried “Good-aligned”, but it didn't look like it fit, either. Ultimately, though, not a big loss, because those following along know the setting's a gaming comic and the capital G makes it clear that it's the alignment, not the descriptor.

I also made a small oversight in my rush--I forgot to put in "Brianna D. Lewis 7/30/12" into the comic image, to help track when this comic was made. Oops. Ah, well. Next time.

And now for a character trivia fact, which is vaguely relevant to my ramble above, since it's a detail that's always been a part of the character but was never drawn until now! Sharp eyes might notice Argus has a ring on his right ring finger; it's a Cursed Ring of Half-Leveling, doing...exactly what it sounds like it does. If you know Argus's basic background (it'll come up in-comic soon enough), that might seem odd, to wear a cursed ring when you're experienced enough to be able not to. But the ring has a loophole that Argus is abusing: it doubles the user's level when taken off. So if Argus gets to level 450 with it on, he's gotten enough experience to Ascend just by breaking the curse. (Which he can.) It being classified as a curse means nothing can stop it, and also that it's a common item not hard to obtain; it can be found as low as level 2.

(Not level 1, because there's no level .5; if you somehow get one at L1, you become a lich, dropping to level -1. Some seek lich powers intentionally and have to do so with difficulty, but this is a way that's most likely entirely an accident. And while liches get a lot of neat perks, it can't be reversed. Worse, a level -999 lich is not recognized as ascending, thus, is trapped. Good if you want to be a god amongst men, bad if you are sick of your undead life, especially since they lack an afterlife.)

Anyway, stay tuned for next week's update, when I'll be updating the old comic 1 and turning it into the new comic 2!

(Yes, I know it sucks. But I swear--I get better in just about every single way possible. Even my author notes get condensed down! Just bear with it for four more pages.)

I can only hope that I continue to live up to (and hopefully exceed) expectations. Starting with trying to continue to keep up this schedule. (Actually, trying to do things faster would be better; I barely made this release on time, and I don't want to sacrifice quality for quantity, nor be late because I want it to be great. :P So more than keeping my schedule, I want to improve it. :P)

well if your art is getting noticably better over six panels then I'm sure it'll get better over a few comics

also faster
that too

p.s. forum games soon? :D:D:D

Only if I get faster. :P

Forum games-->significant timedrain. If I can afford to lose that time, I'll lose it, sure, but if I can't, then obviously, I won't be able to.

So hope I go faster. I should finish panels 1 and 2 before I go to sleep. Heck, considering the nature of my next comic (it's mainly Argus in a monologue), I should be able to get everything except panels 7 and 8 done tonight. :P

that's really cool I like the characters so far

Thanks. :)

I wish I had the time to update the comic more frequently, but alas, my schedule pretty much means the only way I could do so at the moment would be to stop frequenting the forum and give up on keeping updated on other comics. And as that'd make me an isolated ComicFury hermit, I'd rather not. :P

So unfortunately, my updates come when they come, meaning you'll get to see more of the characters very, very slowly.

Am considering making character sheets to release as filler comics, though. Would help flesh the characters out for the audience some more.

(Also, I wish I could do the effects I did in this comic more often--it's not often I get to draw "SMACK!" or "*twitch twitch*". :P)

Yeah it'll be good to have some background info on the characters. :) Take your time.

I might release something tonight for that. I don't have any profiles ready, but they should only take a few hours to make.

Or I could release a full backstory thingy, though the only one I have drawn is the first part of a Kinas Chronicle. (The second part has a hug involved, and that's incredibly hard to draw, especially without a tablet. :P)

It won't be at 6:00 (my current schedule means that the earliest I could do is 8:30), but I'll probably release something just to give you a taste.

As a warning, it's not very happy; the comic's called The Descended for a reason, and the subtext of "How the Mighty Have Fallen..." is not there just 'cause it's a stock phrase. :P
