It's one thing to make a statement to close online friends.
It takes a whole heck of a lot to make that statement in a public forum, which I did, but even then not for a while. But even then, words can be taken back and are nearly invisible.
It takes a whole heck of a lot more to commit to a name change like I did, because it's permanent--but still, it's such a subtle change that nobody's really going to notice it.
...But immortalizing the statement in your webcomic? Is on a whole 'nother level. Aside from the fact that images are harder to get off the internet forever (even if they were deleted, search caches are good), there's the fact that it's exposing yourself to not just your community that you consider friends and family, but to all your readers, to the internet itself, about who you really are.
And that, my friends, I cannot describe how difficult it was. I almost didn't do it. But it's there, out for all to see. I previously have made stealth-edits, so that the site says my new name, but nobody would notice them. This is...much harder to miss.
If you want the full coming-out post, it's
Believe me, nobody has more issues with it than I do, nobody's more confused or shocked about it than I am, and such. It's...like the comic says, something that is just a very difficult subject to get.
Though I'm not going to describe my mental health issues in great detail, know that I am managing them fairly well, so I should be fine.
But as for progress on the comic...I said in the announcement that some had been made, and there is. That's another thing my
has been hinting at; I've been evolving as an artist a LOT as of recently.
Here's some proof of it, even.
is a not-yet-completed sketch of the female characters as basic bodies, to show their height, their attitude, their different physical features, basically, a lot of more advanced artistic concepts. It's a bit of a failure in some ways (thus why it's not complete), but it has given me a VERY good baseline for most of them, and as a consolation prize, made me realize I need to readjust some heights on the characters page.
(Speaking of the characters page...I'm planning on going through it, section by section, and cleaning it up. Removing outdated content, streamlining descriptions, and whatnot. Including adding new drawings, of all the cast with their most up-to-date appearances.)
I've also done a couple of doodles.
you can find Indigo Montimer, and
you can find Lord Demon. You might recall
, used for my special anniversary nearly two years ago. These being doodles, the sprites are more accurate in a lot of ways, though I might take some features from the doodles that contradict the sprites. (Depends.)
Those are mainly the appetizers, though. Where I've truly progressed as an artist is in my sketching (doodles aren't sketches; they're done quickly and messily, whereas sketches are more refined), my understanding of backgrounds (with a touch of perspective), in giving dynamic life to things, but mainly in coloring. My process is entirely different, and the results have been very, very cool each time I've tried them out.
The last SFW picture I did was
, and I can tell you, I most assuredly have gotten even better since that! Anatomy I've gotten a much firmer grasp on. Textures I'm getting the hang of. Multi-coloring objects is another thing I figured out after that drawing. (Unfortunately, the only example I have is not for The Descended, and is as mentioned NSFW because as an anatomical practice, it featured nudity.)
Essentially, my art is getting stronger and stronger and stronger and stronger. I really, really think that just with a little bit more of a push in the right areas, I'll have art that I'm actually proud of.
Butyeah. That's where things have been heading. The comic's
ready to continue.
Just need a little more.
In the mean time, feel free to check out
the fanart page
; I uploaded three that were done. The first of Sarge (his first fanart!), by
. It's a cameo inside a page, so I cropped it, but still, it's there. The second is a badass picture of Davos drawn by
as a birthday gift to me. (I'm very bad at remembering to update the page; that's my birthday of
year I'm talking about. :P)
The third is a group drawing done as part of a fanart exchange, of not just one character, but all of The Outcasts, done by
. He also gave me links to each individual Outcast! Go check out their stuff, seriously.
(I've made some stealth edits to the comic already, basically cleaning it up bit by small bit. Wish me luck on this housekeeping!)

Planning on it. :)

I'm a new subscriber. Comics made with hard work and love of the topic are irresistible to me. I can't pass by something made with care and 'sincerity'. Even if the subject matter is quite alien to me. I will learn as I go.

Sorry for the delay in response. Really, really serious thank you for this comment. My only hope is that I will not come to disappoint people like you who have kept me going this long.

Figured I'd peek your comic, and saw this. I don't think I ever said as I saw it happening in the forums, but good on you for embracing who you are. Most people don't have the guts.

To be fully honest, I still don't
have the guts.
I've told people on here, in my comic. I've told people on ComicFury, which is the internet site I am closest to. But when it comes to real-life, there's nobody I've told.
Thank you for saying it. :)
